About DARCH

DARCH is the Australian Institute of Architects NSW Chapter Emerging Architects and Graduates Committee.  It was established in 2005 to enable and encourage our demographic to contribute to the profession. We provide opportunities at a state and national level, and in particular for local initiatives.

DARCH is represented at a national level by EmAGN: the Emerging Architects and Graduates Network.

DARCH is not an acronym. It is a name and a group that was intended to be more than a young architects’ group, to be a movement for change in the Institute and in architecture.

DARCH aims to create a culture of architecture within our demographic, to contribute to the public discourse about our changing profession and changing environment, to support our members and to connect with other design professionals, artists, writers, and the public.

To date, we have held forums about current issues such as the working harbour, public commissions for emerging architects and communicating architectural ideas to the public; we have held competitions such as a pendant light competition, the North Sydney Bus Shelter Competition, and the EmAGN Sydney Photographic Competition and public exhibitions;  the NSW Emerging Architect Prize and associated talks and exhibitions; events in conjunction with the Sydney Architecture Festival including DARCHBAR and Iron Architect; fundraising events for re-building in Haiti and Lego donations for a children’s charity; a series of seminars on the registration process and career seminars; slide nights for the Dulux Study Tour recipients;  provided informal opportunities to meet the RAIA Gold Medal recipients; we have run a series of small bar tours with talks by the designers; and established the Sydney version of the Tokyo based multidisciplinary Pecha Kucha slide night series.

DARCH would love to have new members and new input. Please contact us: darch@architecture.com.au and follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
